Achievements of Monolithic Active Pixel Sensors for the CBM Vertex Detector

چکیده
The development of Monolithic Active Pixel Sensors for the CBM vertex detector is mainly driven by two issues: the read-out speed and the tolerance to non-ionising radiation. Significant progress was achieved in 2005 in these two areas, as well as for the tolerance to ionising radiation and for the sensor thinning [1, 2]. Simulation studies were also performed in order to optimize the design of the detector.

R&D on Monolithic Active Pixel Sensors for the CBM Vertex Detector
The physics goals of the CBM experiment call for unprecedented flavour tagging performances out of reach of established silicon pixel detector technologies. Monolithic Active Pixel Sensors (MAPS), developed in collaboration by IReS and LEPSI in Strasbourg since 1999, are promising candidates for the CBM vertex detector. A MAPS-prototype made of 1 million pixels covering a surface of 3.5cm2, thi...
متن کاملCMOS Monolithic Active Pixel Sensors (MAPS) for future vertex detectors
This paper reviews the development of CMOS Monolithic Active Pixel Sensors (MAPS) for future vertex detectors. MAPS are developed in a standard CMOS technology. In the imaging field, where the technology found its first applications, they are also known as CMOS Image Sensors. The use of MAPS as a detector for particle physics was first proposed at the end of 1999. Since then, their good perform...
متن کاملMonolithic CMOS Pixel Detector for ILC Vertex Detection
Studies in the U.S., Europe, and Asia, have demonstrated the power of a pixel vertex detector in experiments at a future high energy linear collider. Silicon CCDs (Charged Coupled Devices) [1] seemed like the vertex detector sensors of choice for the International Linear Collider (ILC) until the accelerator technology decision. With the choice of a cold TESLAlike superconducting technology for ...
متن کاملDevelopment of very light pixel arrays based on fast and radiation tolerant CMOS sensors for the CBM vertex detector
The Micro-Vertex Detector (MVD) of the CBM experiment requires very light detector stations equipped with highly granular and thin pixel sensors adapted to hostile running conditions. CMOS pixel sensors of the MIMOSA series are being developed for several years in ordre to match the challenging specifications of the MVD. Breakthroughs were achieved in 2009, which concern the fast sensor read-ou...
متن کاملAchievements of CMOS Pixels for the CBM Micro-Vertex Detector (MVD)
It was already established that CMOS sensors provide the single point resolution and reduced material budget required for the ambitioned MVD vertexing performances. Achieving these performances in the CBM running conditions is however challenging, especially because of the required radiation tolerance and read-out speed. Important steps addressing these issues were made in 2006. Moreover, a new...
